Date: April 2001

Project Description:

Soft stuffed bear that sports a sweater with Ombudsman contact information on front. The project was for Volunteer Ombudsmen to distribute to Alzheimer's and MH/MR residents in hopes that family visitors would then link contact to Ombudsman program if there was a care concern.

Impact:

In one contact, bear was relayed to a "non-communicative" resident. Resident did not interact with anyone. On repeat visits, volunteer ombudsman observed resident clutching bear. He (volunteer ombudsman) persisted in communicative attempts. Now, resident will converse briefly with volunteer ombudsman.
