FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BARBARA FRASER, PROGRAM MANAGER, PRESENTED CONGRESSIONAL AWARD
Barbara Fraser, Program Manager with the Office of the State Long-term
Care Ombudsman, was recognized at a luncheon during the November Ombudsman
Conference with presentation of a Congressional Award from 2nd District
Congressman Sanford Bishop (Albany) in tribute to her outstanding service to
residents of long-term care facilities.
Working with the
State Office since 1989, Fraser has coordinated certification training and
continuing education for staff of the Georgia LTCO Program. She has been
commended for her training techniques and innovative skits designed for adult
learners. On November 30, 2001, Fraser retired from her position as Program
Manager, but she remains actively involved in ombudsman activities.
Ombudsmen representing the Council of Community Ombudsman (CoCO) at the
luncheon honored Fraser with the special tribute that included, in addition to
the Congressional Award, accolades excerpted from a collection of letters and
notes prepared by facility residents and employees, a special letter prepared by
Lt. Governor Mark Taylor and the CoCO Ombudsman of the Year Award.
The
staff of the LTCO program seek to improve the quality of life of the residents
of long-term care facilities – nursing homes and personal care homes, often
called assisted living or residential care homes. “Ombudsman” is a Swedish
word meaning citizen representative.
