ASSISTED LIVING

Assisted Living Consumer Expectations Checklist - developed by the State of Washington Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, this checklist is designed to help prospective assisted living residents and their families assess and evaluate facilities. It is meant to be a guide to some of the most important issues, but not to be an exclusive list of all issues.

Thinking of Moving to an Assisted Living Residence? Fostering Autonomy & Independence (October 2003).  This guidebook to help people choose an assisted living residence with a special focus on finding a residence that promotes choice and independence was published by the Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled and the Nursing Home Community Coalition of New York State. The guide is available to download from www.nhccnys.org and distribution is being encouraged. For questions or comments contact: Cynthia Rudder, Executive Director NHCC

Policy Principles for Assisted Living (April 2003).  Signed by the National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform (NCCNHR), the National Association of State Ombudsman Programs (NASOP) and the National Association of Local Long Term Care Ombudsman Programs (NALLTCO), this document outlines problems and proposes solutions that will guarantee a reasonable level of quality for residents of assisted living facilities.
