CALL FOR STRONGER RESPONSE TO NURSING HOME ABUSE
A new report from the General Accounting Office (GAO), requested by Sens.
Chuck Grassley and John Breaux, finds that local and state enforcement
authorities have played a limited roll in investigating cases of physical and
sexual abuse of nursing home residents. The report was the
subject of a Senate Special Committee on Aging hearing on March 4, 2002.
The GAO report entitled, "Nursing
Homes: More Can Be Done to Protect Residents from Abuse" was
released on March 4 and is available on line.
Testimony
of all panelists appearing before the Senate Special Committee on Aging can be
found on the committee's website.
NCCNHR calls for stronger response to nursing home abuse.

release issued on March 4, 2002.
