Mental Health/Co-Occurring Disorders Ombudsman
The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Diseases (MHDDAD), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Mental Health/Co-Occurring Disorders Ombudsman.
Serves as the official designated to protect the rights of consumers of mental health and/or co-occurring services. Promotes the highest attainable standards of treatment, competence, efficiency and justice for the safety, well being and rights of consumers with mental illness, developmental disabilities, chemical dependency, or co-occurring disabilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Establishes priorities, policies and procedures for receiving, investigating, referring, and attempting to resolve complaints that may adversely affect the safety, well-being and rights of the consumers
- Prioritizes investigations, reporting, and recommendations of alleged acts or failure to act by any services provider
- Manages human resources and directs administrative activities.
- Interviews, hires, directs, trains, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges employees
- Promotes the interests of consumers before governmental agencies
- Recommends changes to laws, regulations, policies, and actions to protect the safety and rights of consumers
- Drafts, manages, and reviews programmatic legislation.
- Maintains effective working relationships with local, state, and federal officials and agencies and other legal entities
- Collects, records and analyzes data relating to complaints and findings with regard to service providers in order to identify adverse effects
- Serves as a member of the medical review group as established by law
- Assists with the development of resources, funding, administrative support, and programmatic function to support the mission of the office
- Gathers information and data about decisions, acts, and other matters of an agency, facility, or program
- Serves as a lead resource to and represents the interest of individuals with regard to the need for public mental health services
- Ensures there is adequate data collection management system for use in fulfilling data and tracking requirements of the department
- Serves as an executive-level change agent to drive employees’ engagement and productivity

State Long-Term Care Ombudsman

The state of Oregon has an opportunity for a Long Term Care Ombudsman to serve the people of the state of Oregon in their mission of enhancing the quality of life, improving the level of care, protecting the individual's rights and promoting the dignity of each Oregon citizen residing in a long-term care facility.
The Office of the Long Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) is an independent state agency that serves long-term care facility residents through complaint investigation, resolution and advocacy for improvement in resident care. Program staffing includes a State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, ten other staff members, and a statewide network of committed volunteers. The program is monitored by the Long-Term Care Advisory Committee, appointed by the Governor and legislative leadership. The vision of OLTC is that Oregon's citizens living in nursing facilities, residential care facilities, assisted living facilities and adult foster care homes receive the quality care they deserve. They should enjoy freedom from abuse and neglect and the freedom to make choices about their care.
The person selected for this position reports to and is appointed by the Governor and serves a term of four years. This appointment is subject to Senate confirmation. This is a full-time, executive service position located in Salem, Oregon. If you are hired, you will become part of the State’s Executive Service team.
TO QUALIFY
In accordance to ORS 441.103, the Long Term Care Ombudsman shall have background and experience in seven specific areas. Please describe in your resume and cover letter how you possess background and experience in the following:
- The field of aging;
- Health care;
- Working with community programs;
- Strong understanding of long term care issues, both regulatory and policy;
- Working with health care providers;
- Working with and involvement in volunteer programs; and
- Administrative and managerial experience.
